The Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) will host a come-and-go public involvement meeting at Skyland Elementary School in Tuscaloosa to discuss a proposed roadway project to improve mobility and safety on Skyland Boulevard and McFarland Boulevard.
The meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, June 23, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Attendees can view exhibits and speak with ALDOT representatives regarding the project.
The project includes turn lanes, traffic signal modifications and access management along Skyland Boulevard from the McFarland Boulevard intersection to east of Andrews Street. An additional eastbound left-turn lane from McFarland Boulevard onto Skyland Boulevard is also proposed.
Access management involves redesigning access along busy corridors with high traffic volumes. According to the Federal Highway Administration, studies show that effective access management can reduce crash rates by up to 50%, while also improving traffic flow. Currently, more than 20,000 vehicles per day use this corridor.
Project maps and comment forms are also available online for those unable to attend.
Skyland Elementary School is located at 408 Skyland Boulevard East, Tuscaloosa, AL 35405.
