The Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) is launching a I-459 resurfacing project in the heart of Hoover.
The 3.2-mile job stretches from south of SR-150 (Exit 10) to north of US-31 (Exit 13).
Nearly 80,000 vehicles navigate this busy stretch of interstate every day in the heart of Hoover.
Crews raised construction signs late last week before preparing to remove the existing layer of asphalt on Sunday, July 19.
Motorists should expect nightly lane closures from 7:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., Sunday through Friday.
The contractor should wrap up the resurfacing by Spring 2027.
The project is one of a handful in the works to upgrade the I-459 driving surface.
ALDOT previously announced plans to begin replacing the forty-year-old concrete between Lorna Road and the Little Shades Creek bridge next year.
Projects to smooth out I-459 between Exits 6 and 10 and build the future Exit 9 are also slated to get underway in 2027.
