All westbound lanes of US-72/Florence Boulevard now open

Oct 27, 2026

All westbound lanes of US-72/Florence Boulevard in Lauderdale County are now open to traffic.

The $24 million widening project with Grayson Carter and Son Contracting expanded two miles of the four-lane highway to six lanes from Indian Springs Drive to Sky Park Road, west of Shoal Creek.

Although GCAS completed mainline paving earlier this month, the outside westbound lane remained closed while the contractor completed transitions at intersections and driveways, placed shoulder stone and constructed a concrete island at the CR-27 intersection.

The eastbound outside lane remains closed for final work items along the road shoulder, including completion of a multi-use path. ALDOT anticipates the contractor reopening that lane in a few weeks.
