Transit drivers from across Alabama gathered for the annual ALTRANS Roadeo held on March 13 and 14, 2026. This event focuses on sharpening skills, reinforcing safety and celebrating the work happening every day on the state’s transit systems.
The Roadeo brings together drivers from rural transit agencies across Alabama for a mix of training and competition. Throughout the event, participants navigate a driving course designed to test precision, awareness and control. These are the same skills they rely on while transporting passengers in their communities.

While the competition draws attention, the purpose behind it runs deeper. The Roadeo gives drivers a chance to practice in a controlled environment, learn from one another and build confidence behind the wheel. It also highlights the level of professionalism required in a job that often happens quietly but plays a critical role in keeping people connected.
ALDOT administers the ALTRANS program, which supports rural public transportation across the state with federal funding. The program helps provide access to jobs, medical care and daily needs for residents who may not otherwise have reliable transportation options.
Events like the ALTRANS Roadeo serve as a reminder of the people behind that service. For many drivers, it is not just about completing a course or earning recognition. It is about doing the job well and doing it safely for the passengers who depend on them.
The Roadeo highlights the skill, focus and dedication that transit operators bring to their work each day, helping ensure Alabama’s transportation network remains safe, reliable and accessible.
