Work to transform a major west Jefferson County intersection is experiencing significant progress.
The Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) is working to tie Morgan Road directly in with Lakeshore Parkway. The project is a partnership with the City of Bessemer and Jefferson County.
The future connection at SR-150 grows more visible by the day since work began in December.

Crews continue carving out the future intersection path near the Starlight Baptist Church.
The project should improve traffic flow in an area home to a growing number of industrial campuses. That group of nearby distribution centers includes Lowe’s, Carvana, Dollar General and FedEx Ground.
The alignment will help connect Morgan Road travelers to the upcoming Diverging Diamond Interchange on Lakeshore Parkway at I-65 in Homewood. Jefferson County’s second DDI should open to traffic by the end of 2027.

In addition, the work will widen SR-150 between Morgan and Shannon Roads from three to five lanes.
Right now, that stretch of roadway averages nearly 20,000 vehicles a day.
In the heart of widening SR-150, ALDOT will replace the 93-year-old bridge over Little Shades Creek.

The 58-foot span is located just east of Lakeshore Parkway. Its replacement could be complete by the end of 2026.
The work to align Morgan Road with Lakeshore Parkway should take an additional year.
