The Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) held its annual equipment ROADeo for the Tuscaloosa Area and Fayette Area on Thursday, April 23.
The ROADeo encourages safety and precision while helping operators sharpen their skills across a variety of equipment challenges. Competitors tested their abilities on machines such as single- and tandem-axle dump trucks, tractor mowers, backhoes, motor graders, skid-steer loaders and lowboys.
Top finishers will advance to the statewide ROADeo in Montgomery on May 12-13, with hopes of earning a spot in the Southeast Regional Competition this fall in Virginia.
“This is an opportunity for our guys to train and develop skills,” said James Kyzer, Fayette Area Maintenance Engineer. “It’s also a great way for us to build teamwork and camaraderie while emphasizing operator safety. We can use this time to develop relationships that will make us more effective as a department.”
