Sunday night, the Alabama Department of Transportation kicked off nightly lane closures to start resurfacing eight miles of I-20 in Talladega.

The work stretches from the Eastaboga Interchange to the H.J. Bentley Jr. Parkway Overpass.

The contractor will mill off the old asphalt, re-surface, install guardrails and apply traffic striping. Ramp and Interchange work at Exit 173 and Exit 179 is also included.

Nightly lane closures will be utilized from about 7 p.m.-7 a.m. Sunday through Thursday to minimize impact on the 46,000 vehicles which travel the corridor daily.

ALDOT began milling off old asphalt between Eastaboga and Oxford on I-20 on Sunday, May 3.

Weather permitting, crews should finish all resurfacing work by the end of 2026, if not sooner.

ALDOT urges drivers to adjust their travel plans now and would like to thank the public for their patience during this important I-20 upgrade.
