Expect overnight lane closures on US-72/Florence Boulevard in Lauderdale County this week. The contractor begins milling tonight in preparation for final paving.

Additionally, daytime lane closures for asphalt leveling will continue, as weather permits. Daytime lane closures paused from the middle of last week through the Fourth of July weekend.

Having completed most of the leveling on the eastbound roadway, Grayson Carter and Son Contracting plans to mill the eastbound roadway first. Nighttime lane closures will take place between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m.

To minimize impacts to traffic, daytime lane closures are limited to the following timeframes:

  • Eastbound lane closures only from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
  • Westbound lane closures only from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

ALDOT anticipates completion of paving on the $24 million widening project this summer. The project constructed additional lanes on two miles of the four-lane highway from Indian Springs Drive to Sky Park Road, west of Shoal Creek.

Funding for the project includes a Better Utilizing Investments to Leverage Development grant obtained by Lauderdale County as well as a combination of state and other federal funding.
