Crews are set to temporarily close I-459 entrance and exit ramps over the next month as the Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) continues its ongoing resurfacing project in Hoover.

The 3.2-mile job stretches from south of SR-150 (Exit 10) to north of US-31 (Exit 13).

ALDOT kicked off a 3.2-mile resurfacing project on I-459 in Hoover in July 2026.

The tentative schedule for the first round of nightly ramp closures on I-459 southbound is as follows:

  • September 20-21: US-31 on ramp to I-459 southbound
  • September 22: Galleria Flyover (Exit 13 A) off ramp
  • September 23: US-31 off ramp (Exit 13 B)
  • September 24: SR-150 off ramp (Exit 10)

Each night, the referenced ramps will remain closed from 7 p.m. until 6 a.m. for milling work.

Additional rounds of nightly ramp closures are also scheduled for September 27-October 1, October 4-7 and October 8-14.

More specifics about those nightly closures will be announced prior to the beginning of each round.

The overall ramp schedule is dependent on weather and is subject to change.

ALDOT recommends drivers use SR-150 between US-31 and Exit 10 as an alternative route during these ramp closures.

The contractor should wrap up the total resurfacing project by Spring 2027, if not sooner.
