State bridge inspectors will inspect the northbound SR-77 bridge over the Coosa River between Southside and Rainbow City on Monday, July 7.

ALDOT will close the one-lane “Little Bridge,” a truss bridge constructed in 1939, from about 8 a.m. until the routine inspection is complete. Northbound traffic will be diverted to one lane of the southbound bridge during this time.

Southbound bridge inspection

Inspectors will move to the southbound bridge on Tuesday, July 8, with single-lane closures alternating between the two southbound lanes.

The two bridges carry a combined total of about 25,000 vehicles daily.

ALDOT is developing a plan to replace the northbound bridge with a modern two-lane bridge.
