Geotechnical work to start soon on US-98

Starting Monday, July 21, the Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) started a short-term geotechnical investigation along US-98 at Fly Creek in Fairhope. This work is an important step in the engineering planning and design of new bridges that will replace the current culvert structure.

What You Need to Know:

  • Work Starts: Monday, July 21
  • Work Ends: Thursday, July 24
  • Expected Traffic Impacts: 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily
  • Expect daytime alternating lane closures.
  • Where: US-98 between Veterans Drive/Woodlands Drive and Fly Creek Ave

The planned bridge structure will provide improved long-term reliability for one of Baldwin County’s busiest roads.

“We know US-98 is a busy road, and we’re doing our best to keep traffic moving while we get this important work done,” said an ALDOT spokesperson James Gordon.

Suggested Alternate Routes:

  • Scenic Highway 98
  • County Road 13
  • State Route 181

Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead, allow extra travel time, and use alternate routes during these temporary lane closures.
