Bridge rehabilitation project on Dauphin Island Bridge to begin

The Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) will soon begin a major rehabilitation project on the Dauphin Island Bridge, located on SR-193. This work will help extend the life of the bridge and improve safety for motorists.

Key Information:

  • Start date: September 30, 2025
  • Location: Dauphin Island Bridge (SR-193), 3.45 miles long
  • Work includes:
    • Bridge rehabilitation
    • Corrosion mitigation at multiple locations
  • Traffic impacts:
    • Daily lane closures in the work zone
    • One-lane, signalized flagging operations during closures
    • Motorists should slow down and follow posted signs
  • Cost: $33.66 million
  • Contractor: Southern Road & Bridge, LLC
  • Completion: Anticipated by early 2029, weather permitting
