ALDOT begins I-85 capacity improvement project in Montgomery

The Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) is set to begin a major capacity improvement project along Interstate 85 in Montgomery that will expand the corridor from two lanes to three lanes in each direction, extending from the end of the existing three-lane section at Taylor Road to Jenkins Creek.

Widened section of US-280 from Homewood to I-459 has opened.

The Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) has opened the new widened configuration of US-280 this week.

The upgraded four-lane section boosts capacity between Shades Creek Parkway (SR-149) to I-459.

The contractor opened both directions of the upgraded US-280 between SR-149 and I-459 early on Thursday, September 10.

Resurfacing of SR-117 between SR-75 in Ider and SR-71 in Flat Rock will begin Wednesday, Sept. 2.

Resurfacing of about 5.5 miles of SR-117 in DeKalb and Jackson counties will start Wednesday, Sept. 2, weather permitting.

Rogers Group, the contractor on the $1.7 million project, will mill and resurface the two-lane highway from SR-75 in Ider to SR-71 in Flat Rock.

The triple roundabout project in Blount County has won regional honors for best small project in the safety category of the 2026 America’s Transportation Awards competition.

This week the Southern Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (SASHTO) recognized the Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) with its first America’s Transportation Award.

The $2.9 million project will resurface SR-24 from CR-83, where another resurfacing project left off earlier this year, to the Lawrence County line, shown here.

A $2.9 million project to resurface 5.3 miles of SR-24 in eastern Franklin County began this week.

The project will pave the divided four-lane highway from CR-83 to the Lawrence County line. The contractor, Rogers Group, began milling Tuesday, Aug. 25.
