ALDOT opens new SR-119 bridge over Shephard Branch

ALDOT opened the new SR-119 bridge over Shephard Branch to traffic on June 30, 2026.

The Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) has opened the new Shephard Branch bridge on SR-119.

In August of 2025, work began to replace the 91-year-old bridge. The bridge has now more than doubled in size from 65 feet to 140 feet, creating a safer, more comfortable commute for motorists.

ALDOT crews work hard on repairing bridge rails and guard rails following a crash on I-85 southbound at Exit 39.

Next phase of I-65 resurfacing to start

The next phase of I-65 resurfacing will resurface from south of SR-36 in Hartselle to south of I-565 in Limestone County.

The next phase of a $16.5 million project to resurface the entirety of I-65 in Morgan County will begin the evening of Sunday, May 10, weather permitting.

TVA: Wheeler Dam to close March 20-23

The Wheeler Dam will be closed to all traffic from 7 p.m. Friday, March 20, to 5 a.m. Monday, March 23, TVA said.

The Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) today announced plans to fully close the SR-101 Tennessee River crossing for work on the Wheeler Dam bridge during an upcoming weekend.

Bids opened for painting, repair of US-431 bridges in Guntersville

ALDOT opened bids today for a project to paint and repair the Veterans Memorial Bridges on US-431 over the Tennessee River in Guntersville.

Of 11 bidders, contractor Cekra Inc. submitted the apparent low bid of $6,692,309. ALDOT anticipated bids between $11.9 and $14.5 million.
