The Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) will begin a project next week to improve a section of I-20/59 northbound in Greene County with bridge deck rehabilitation and new guardrail.

The work will take place from the Sumter County line to the County Road 80 underpass northwest of Boligee, covering a stretch of approximately four miles.

Bridge deck rehabilitation involves removing and replacing worn sections of the bridge surface to restore structural integrity. Doing so extends the life of the bridge and provides a smoother ride.

Construction is scheduled to begin Monday, June 16 and will continue until early 2026, weather permitting.

American Contracting & Services, Inc. was awarded the project at $7.19 million.

Drivers should expect possible delays and are encouraged to observe work-zone speed limits.
