The Alabama Department of Transportation is opening a section of the South Linden Bypass Tuesday, June 17, to facilitate the construction of the southern tie-in of the new bypass route with US 43.
As of 3 p.m., a portion of U.S. Highway 43 south of Linden will close and traffic will shift onto the newly built northbound lanes of the bypass and a new extension of State Route 69.
This change is a temporary traffic pattern that will keep both directions of U.S. 43 moving while crews continue work to complete the project.
Here’s what drivers need to know:
- Northbound U.S. 43 traffic
- Must merge onto the new northbound bypass lanes.
- Will travel north to the SR-69 extension.
- Must turn left onto the extension, then turn right to return to U.S. 43.
- Southbound U.S. 43 traffic
- Must turn left onto the SR-69 extension.
- Will follow the extension to the bypass lanes.
- Will be directed back to U.S. 43.
- Traffic will use only the newly built northbound lanes, which are temporarily striped for two-way travel.
- Message boards, signs, and traffic drums will guide drivers through the new route.
- Construction is still active in the area. Drivers should slow down and use extra caution.

This change is part of ALDOT’s ongoing work to improve safety and traffic flow along U.S. 43 in the Linden area as part of the West Alabama Highway corridor.
ALDOT remains dedicated to completing the North and South Linden Bypass projects, delivering lasting improvements for the region.
