All lanes of SR-304/Huntsville Brownsferry Road in Limestone County are now open to traffic.
The $13.3 million Rebuild Alabama project reconstructed the two-lane county road as a five-lane state highway between US-31 and I-65. ALDOT widened the overpass on SR-304 at I-65 Exit 347 in an earlier $2.8 million project. The state has invested a total of more than $16 million in improving the corridor connecting to Greenbriar Parkway.
The project included construction of two bridges at Swan Creek and a four-barrel bridge culvert at Old Schoolhouse Branch. Improvements at the US-31 intersection include upgraded traffic signals, additional turn lanes and turn lane extensions. At I-65, in addition to the wider overpass, signals were added at the interchange ramps.
Today’s opening of the additional two travel lanes and center turn lane to traffic marks substantial completion of the project by contractor Rogers Group. ALDOT advises motorists that the area remains a work zone. Temporary lane closures may be necessary for some final work items, including installation of permanent striping and markers.
