Detour via Exit 96 in place July 7–11; message boards will guide drivers
The Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) will temporarily close the northbound exit ramp at Exit 93 on I-65 to all 18-wheelers starting Sunday night, July 6, to allow for essential ramp repairs.
The work is scheduled to continue through Thursday, July 11, weather permitting.
The ramp provides access to US-84 and nearby businesses, including the Love’s Travel Stop. While standard passenger vehicles and smaller trucks will still be able to navigate around the work zone, large commercial vehicles will not have the space to do so safely during construction.
Detour for 18-wheelers:
- Continue north on I-65 to Exit 96 (SR-83)
- Use the overpass to turn back southbound
- Travel south on I-65 and take Exit 93 southbound to access US-84 and Love’s Travel Stop.
What to know:
- Closure is only for the Exit 93 northbound ramp
- Passenger vehicles and smaller trucks may still use the ramp
- Message boards will be placed on I-65 in advance of the closure to alert drivers and guide commercial traffic to the detour
- Schedule: July 7–11, with possible weather delays
ALDOT appreciates your patience as we make improvements to the ramp. ALDOT designed this temporary detour to keep all motorists safe and complete repairs as quickly as possible.
Drivers are reminded to slow down in work zones and always obey posted signs and detours.
