Crews have reached the half-way point of the incentivized window to complete work on the southbound Chalkville Mountain Road exit ramps off I-59 in Trussville.

Starting on July 21, the Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) shut down the off and on ramps as part of the 3.8-mile widening of the interstate between that exit and Edwards Lake Road on in I-459.

Wiregrass Construction has been busy reconstructing and resurfacing the busy ramps over the last few weeks.

They believe, weather permitting, they could reopen the ramps by early Fall.

Work requiring the closure of both northbound ramps is not expected to start until early 2026.

The construction will transform the four miles of interstate from a four-lane highway to a six-lane thoroughfare.

Contractors aim to complete the $70.37 million project by the end of 2026.
