The Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) and local officials are pleased to announce the early completion of a roadway lighting project on US-80 at the intersection of SR-28 and County Road 25 near Bellamy in Sumter County.

The project added 25 new roadway lights to improve visibility and enhance safety for drivers.

“Projects like this are a great example of how state and local partnerships make a real difference for our communities,” said Wallace McAdory, West Central Region Engineer. “Adding lighting to this intersection helps reduce crashes and makes travel safer for everyone.”

Funded through the Alabama Transportation Rehabilitation and Improvement Program-II (ATRIP-II), the project reflects the state’s continued investment in safer, more efficient roadways. ATRIP-II, created as part of the Rebuild Alabama Act, rehabilitates and improves transportation infrastructure by funding projects of local interest, proposed by one or more local governments, related to the state-maintained highway system.

“First and foremost, we thank God for this opportunity to secure ATRIP-II funding for the US-80 lighting project at SR-28 and County Road 25,” said Marcus Campbell, Sumter County Commissioner. “We also thank Gov. Ivey, ALDOT Director John Cooper, Chief Engineer Ed Austin, West Central Region Engineer Wallace McAdory and Pre-Construction Engineer Adriana Dunn. These improvements make our roads safer and show how teamwork benefits Sumter County, the state of Alabama and the nation.”

The $483,969 project was awarded to Temple J. Electric and began in mid-August before finishing ahead of schedule in mid-November.
