Work is underway to replace the Little Shades Creek bridge on SR-150 in Jefferson County.

The 58-foot span is located in Bessemer, just west of Hoover.

Built in 1953, it is now classified as functionally obsolete.

ALDOT is replacing the bridge over Little Shades Creek and widening SR-150 from Morgan Road to Shannon Road.

Earlier this year, ALDOT awarded the $6.65M contract to Carcel & G Construction.

The Little Shades Creek bridge replacement should be complete near the end of 2026.

In addition to the new bridge, Bessemer and Jefferson County are pitching in on two upcoming linked projects.

This month Chilton Contractors is kicking off a $18.95M job to widen a one-mile stretch of the highway between Morgan and Shannon Roads from three to five lanes.

Their crews will also redesign Morgan Road so it directly ties in with Lakeshore Parkway at SR-150.

The two heavily traveled corridors will now connect just southeast of the Starlight Baptist Church along the highway.

The upgrades should improve traffic flow and accessibility for the growing number of industrial campuses nearby, like Lowes Home Improvement’s new 1.2 million-square-foot distribution facility.

That work is expected to last about two years.
