The Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) announced today it is moving forward with a project to make drainage improvements along U.S. Highway 84 in the Shiloh community in Coffee County.
The project is part of a joint effort by ALDOT and the Federal Highway Administration to address drainage concerns raised by residents and meet commitments under a voluntary resolution agreement.
ALDOT explored an option that would have asked property owners to voluntarily sell additional right of way, but that option was ruled out after those efforts were unsuccessful.
With approval from the Federal Highway Administration, ALDOT has developed a drainage improvement plan to address community concerns. The plan includes construction of a new detention basin in the highway median, expansion and modification of existing basins, and improvements to roadside ditches to slow stormwater runoff and improve overall drainage conditions. All work will be performed within existing state right of way.
ALDOT anticipates soliciting bids for this project in early 2026.
ALDOT is launching a dedicated phone line and email address for the Shiloh drainage project. Community members can direct questions or comments to (334) 242-6128 or shilohinfo@dot.state.al.us.
