Teamwork drives success in ALDOT’s District 93

Team District 93 - " Proud as can be."
Feb 17

This May marks 18 years since Tammy Evers began her career with the Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT), a path that has come full circle back to Evergreen, where she now serves as District Administrator for District 93.

Evers started with ALDOT as a Civil Engineering Graduate in District 93, working in construction before moving into maintenance as Assistant District Manager, a role she says she truly enjoyed. In 2016, she transferred to the Grove Hill Area as Maintenance Operations Manager, then was promoted to District Administrator in Thomaston. In 2020, she returned home to Evergreen to lead District 93, which covers Escambia and Conecuh counties.

“I’ve learned something valuable in every role,” Evers said. “Those experiences prepared me for the position I’m in today.”

While District 93 does not include major cities, it carries significant responsibilities, including:

  • 230 lane miles of interstate
  • Two busy interstate rest areas, recognized statewide for cleanliness
  • Nearly 242,000 feet of median cable rail, maintained largely in-house

District crews handle about 90 percent of cable rail repairs themselves, saving taxpayers thousands of dollars each year. Evers also credits rest area attendants for earning multiple awards through their hard work and attention to detail.

When fully staffed, Evers oversees about 45 employees. She emphasizes that the district’s success depends on teamwork.

“I couldn’t do this job without the people around me,” she said.

She praised Assistant District Administrator Blake Yarbrough for his knowledge and leadership, along with the district’s ASAs, project managers and superintendents who manage daily operations.

Evers also highlighted the importance of strong leadership support, thanking Daniel Ganus, Operations Engineer for the Grove Hill Area, and Evan Davis, Maintenance Engineer for the Mobile Area.

“Their advice, support and willingness to listen have meant a lot over the years,” she said.

After 18 years with ALDOT, Evers says she remains proud of District 93 and the team behind it.

“Our district’s success comes from dedicated people working together every day to serve the public,” she said.
