ALDOT repaired a large sinkhole beside SR-101 north of Lexington in Lauderdale County last week.
The sinkhole measured more than 20 feet deep and appeared to enter a cave or tunnel.
On Thursday, March 12, ALDOT maintenance personnel filled the sinkhole with 22 tons of stone and capped it with nine cubic yards of concrete.

Sinkholes commonly occur in North Alabama due to its karst topography, in which soluble bedrock can cause the surface to collapse.
ALDOT crews responded to several erosion problems across the region during heavy rains last week.
