About 17 miles of I-59 southbound in Etowah and DeKalb counties will close Wednesday, May 13, for repairs to a crossover on an interstate reconstruction project. ALDOT anticipates the repairs taking several hours to complete.
A significant segment of the southbound I-59 roadway between Reece City and Collinsville is being reconstructed by contractor Vulcan Materials. For several miles through the work zone, both directions of traffic use the northbound roadway, separated by concrete barrier. Southbound traffic shifts to the northbound roadway via crossovers through the median at each end of the work zone.
The crossover at south end of the project requires repairs.
ALDOT will close I-59 southbound between Exit 205 at Collinsville and Exit 188 at Reece City beginning at 8 a.m. for the contractor to make the repairs.
Official detour route
ALDOT will divert southbound traffic at Exit 205 to SR-68 eastbound to US-11 southbound to SR-211 southbound, then back to I-59 at Exit 188.
Please expect delays and plan additional travel time. Visit ALGOtraffic.com or download the ALGO Traffic app for real-time traffic and road condition information.
ALDOT anticipates reopening I-59 to southbound traffic about mid-afternoon.
