I-59 traffic south of Collinsville shifted for reconstruction

Construction of the crossover at the north end of the $40.7 million I-50 reconstruction project, just south of Exit 205 at Collinsville in DeKalb County. Southbound traffic shifted this afternoon to the northbound roadway, via this crossover, and will remain shifted for about a year while five miles of the southbound roadway undergo reconstruction by contractor Vulcan Materials.

Southbound traffic on I-59 south of Collinsville in DeKalb County shifted this afternoon to one lane of the northbound roadway.

The southbound roadway from just south of Exit 205 at SR-68 in Collinsville to milepost 199.5 will remain closed for about a year for reconstruction.

Concrete barriers separate two-way traffic on the northbound roadway.

First reconstructed southbound segment of I-59 to open to traffic

Five miles of reconstructed I-59 southbound roadway north of Reece City are ready for traffic.

About five miles of reconstructed I-59 — the first segment of the southbound roadway replaced in northeast Alabama — will open today.

I-59 northbound ramps at Chalkville Mountain Road are now open

ALDOT reopens I-59 northbound ramps at Chalkville Mountain Road

Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) crews have reopened the I-59 northbound Chalkville Mountain Road (Exit 141) ramps in Trussville.

Following their May 18 closure, contractor Wiregrass Construction has worked hard to reopen the ramps ahead of the 40-day deadline.

Gadsden interstate ramp closures planned for paving

The ramp from I-759 westbound to I-59 southbound, shown here in a 2025 file photo, is one of three interchange ramps scheduled for paving by ALDOT crews.

Expect interstate ramp closures in the Gadsden area on upcoming dates for maintenance paving by ALDOT.

The project to reconstruct and rehabilitate the southbound I-59 roadway extends from the state line nearly to Fort Payne.

Alabama Welcome Center to close for first phase of work

A $47.5 million project for reconstruction and rehabilitation of 16 miles of I-59 southbound near the Georgia state line will begin after Memorial Day.

I-59S to close for repair near DeKalb, Etowah line

The crossover carries traffic back from the northbound I-59 roadway to the southbound roadway at the south end of the project, south of Stephens Gap Road in Etowah County.

About 17 miles of I-59 southbound in Etowah and DeKalb counties will close Wednesday, May 13, for repairs to a crossover on an interstate reconstruction project. ALDOT anticipates the repairs taking several hours to complete.

Upcoming I-59 lane shift to impact Trussville commuter traffic

An upcoming lane shift in the ongoing I-59 northbound widening project will impact traffic in Trussville.

The next phase of I-59 widening project in Trussville will affect daily commutes early next week. The upcoming I-59 lane shift will start on the evening of January 6, 2026, weather permitting.

Part of I-59 in Etowah, DeKalb counties to close Friday for repairs

ALDOT will close I-59 between Reece City and Collinsville and divert traffic Friday to allow the contractor reconstructing I-59 southbound to make needed repairs to the northbound roadway.

About 17 miles of I-59 in northern Etowah County and southern DeKalb County will close Friday, Dec. 19, for repairs.

A significant segment of the southbound roadway between Reece City and Collinsville is being reconstructed by contractor Vulcan Materials. During the project, both directions of traffic have been sharing the northbound roadway.

Bids opened for sixth I-59 reconstruction project

ALDOT opened bids today on a project to reconstruct and rehabilitate parts of the I-59 southbound roadway, left. The corresponding northbound segments were or are in the process of being reconstructed by previous and ongoing projects.

Total contracts approach $240 million

The first phase of the I-59 reconstruction project included closure of the northbound on- and off-ramps at Exit 239, but there are no interchanges within the segment to be reconstructed in the second phase.
