Mastin Lake Road under the new overpass on North Memorial Parkway/US-231/US-431 in Huntsville will close for several weeks starting Friday, Sept. 4.
Following morning rush, both legs of Mastin Lake Road will be converted to allow right-in/right-out movements only.
ALDOT anticipates the intersection fully reopening in mid-October — after the new mainline opens to traffic in both directions and contractor Rogers Group completes paving under the overpass.
Mainline openings ahead
The $34 million project to extend the mainline and frontage roads appears on track for substantial completion late this year.
Rogers Group currently anticipates the northbound mainline and overpass opening to traffic in mid-September, weather permitting.
The contractor plans to open the southbound mainline and overpass in early October.
Bridge subcontractor Miller & Miller completed construction of the overpass last month. Construction of lighting foundations and lighting installation remain underway.
Traffic control plan
In lieu of left turns from all directions and through movements on Mastin Lake Road, detour signs will direct traffic to follow an alternate pattern.
Northbound traffic will U-turn at the protected left turn signal at Winchester Road. Southbound traffic will use the dedicated U-turn lane at Sparkman Drive/US-72 East.
Drivers may see detour signs erected today in preparation for Friday’s change.
City of Huntsville Traffic Engineering will assist with signal adjustments.
ALDOT also advises drivers that a $2 million project to resurface North Memorial Parkway north and south of the overpass project will begin the evening of Tuesday, Sept. 8, weather permitting.
