Be aware of National Bicycle Safety Month this May

The Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) is urging everyone to be alert and keep bicyclists safe. The month of May marks National Bicycle Safety Month across the United States.

Nationwide, 1,166 bicyclists were killed in traffic crashes in 2023 while an additional 49,489 bicyclists were injured in traffic crashes.

Bridge girders are moved into place by cranes during the late night and early morning hours, when traffic volume on I-565 is the lowest.

The Alabama Department of Transportation will be closing a portion of SR-605 south of US-231 to replace damaged drainage pipes.

The closure will begin at approximately 6 a.m. on Tuesday, June 25, and should reopen by 6 p.m. on Tuesday, weather permitting.
