ALDOT to perform I-65 evacuation exercise April 22

On Tuesday, April 22, representatives from the Alabama Department of Transportation, the Alabama Emergency Management Agency and local agencies will conduct a hurricane preparation lane-reversal simulation on I-65 from Mobile to Montgomery.

How ALDOT uses contraflow to expedite hurricane evacuation

ALDOT and state agencies involved in the contraflow process meet once a year to rehearse.

There are many wonderful things about living in Alabama, but hurricane season, which runs from June 1 through Nov. 30, isn’t one of them.

However, Alabamians can take comfort in knowing that the Alabama Department of Transportation has a well-organized and practiced plan to make hurricane evacuations run as smoothly as possible.
