ALDOT continues Benjamin Fitzpatrick bridge work

Mar 27

The Alabama Department of Transportation painting and rehabilitation project on the Benjamin Fitzpatrick Bridge in Tallassee will have periodic lane closures starting Thursday, March 28, 2024, through the month of April 2024.

During this time, the contractor will clean up the paint overspray from the sidewalks along the bridge. The permanent striping will be put down, and a layer of protective sealant will be applied to extend the life of the concrete bridge deck. The sealant also helps provide a safer surface for driving when the road is wet. Lanes will need to be closed at some times to allow the sealant to cure.

The contractor will keep one lane open at all times. Lane closures could involve temporary traffic signals and/or traffic control people. Motorists should plan accordingly for delays from lane closures and be mindful of people working in the work zone.

The project began March 2023 with an expected 16 months to complete.  The project is on track to be completed in the summer of 2024.
