A smoother road is just ahead for a bumpy section of I-65 from US-31 to University Drive in Birmingham.
The Alabama Department of Transportation project to repair the uneven roadway will be completed this summer. The work is primarily being performed at night for the safety of motorists and to reduce the interruption to traffic flow during peak travel times.
As part of this project, ALDOT is also increasing the length of the following acceleration and deceleration lanes onto and off I-65. The extension of these lanes will give drivers more time to safely merge onto and exit off I-65.
Acceleration lanes:
- I-65 southbound University Blvd.
- I-65 southbound Lakeshore Drive
- I-65 northbound US-31
- I-65 southbound Oxmoor Road
Deceleration lanes:
- I-65 southbound US-31 I-65 southbound Oxmoor Road
