First reconstructed southbound segment of I-59 to open to traffic

Five miles of reconstructed I-59 southbound roadway north of Reece City are ready for traffic.

About five miles of reconstructed I-59 — the first segment of the southbound roadway replaced in northeast Alabama — will open today.

SR-35 intersection improvements in Fort Payne to begin

The $5 million project will improve operations at several intersections on SR-35, including the junctions with the southbound I-59 on- and off-ramps and Airport Road/Jordan Road, seen here looking west from near the interstate.

Work to improve operations at several intersections on SR-35 in Fort Payne will begin this week.

The nearly $5 million project with contractor Wiregrass Construction extends about 1.7 miles from Dewyer Avenue to Prestwood Drive.

ALDOT to widen shoulders on SR-227

ALDOT crews and a contractor will work to widen sections of shoulder on SR-227 in Guntersville next week, weather permitting.  

Drivers should expect lane closures between Gerald Bryant Drive and Short Creek from 7:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. daily, Monday, July 13, through Friday, July 17.

Public invited to North Region transportation planning meeting

The Alabama Statewide Transportation Plan provides a long-range vision for the state's transportation system and helps guide investment decisions across all modes of transportation. ALDOT is updating the plan and encouraging public input through a series of regional public involvement meetings.

The Alabama Department of Transportation’s North Region will host a public involvement meeting on July 15, 2026, from 5 to 7 p.m. The public is invited to discuss and comment on the Statewide Transportation Plan (SWTP). Expect overnight work on Florence Boulevard; daytime lane closures to continue

This week, drivers on US-72/Florence Boulevard in Lauderdale County should expect lane closures during the day and at night.

Expect overnight lane closures on US-72/Florence Boulevard in Lauderdale County this week. The contractor begins milling tonight in preparation for final paving.
